ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS WHICH YOU MIGHT HAVE

Q: What do the Campus and Medical Center expect to accomplish by having this survey conducted?

A: Upon the completion of the Survey, the Campus and Medical Center Management Teams expect to have:

1) a better understanding of what employees really think;
2) an open and constructive discussion of challenges facing the organization AND each department;
3) action plans for meeting those challenges and support for implementing them;
4) an understanding of the progress since the last survey in fall 2003 and;
5) positive movement into the future.

Q: Why should I fill out the Survey?

A: The survey gives you a unique opportunity to offer your opinions to management about the issues which concern you. Your viewpoints are valuable and, by completing the survey, you can express those views and help lead the way to having those concerns addressed. If you don’t participate, you lose an essential chance to make your voice heard.

Q: I’m the only person in my department with less than six months seniority and I work part time. I’m afraid that my manager will learn what I put on this survey about her. How do I know I can’t be identified?

A: The original survey forms are seen ONLY by Morehead Associates, who will never share them with anyone at UCSF. Further, Morehead has committed to never create a report that reflects input of less than five employees, to assure that each individual remains anonymous. This is called "The Rule of Five" and insures confidential reporting.

Q: What will happen with the Survey results?

A: Morehead Associates will create reports which will be shared first with senior management, then department heads who will, in turn, communicate the results to you. Once the results are shared at all levels, action planning will take place. This action planning may make use of quality improvement processes already in place. We will all be involved in making recommendations for improvement, helping to implement them and evaluating what changes occur.

Q: How long does the survey take?

A: The survey consists of 55 questions and should take no more that 20 minutes. If you participated in the 2006 staff opinion survey, the questions will be familiar. The survey has been set up so that you can take part of the survey, leave, and finish taking the survey from a different computer.
